Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are highly-purified DNA molecules extracted from fish. When we inject them into skin they reach cells called fibroblasts, which are the cells responsible for the production of collagen, which forms collective tissue. This maintains the firm structure of the skin.

As we age, collagen production declines, which is why it gets saggy and more wrinkled. Polynucleotides stimulate the fibroblasts to produce more collagen, leading to firmer, smoother skin.

They address fine lines and wrinkles, dark circles, dullness, poor texture, hyperpigmentation and acne scarring.

At Dr Hannah Bell, I use 2 products:
Plinest, which can be used on the face, neck and décolletage
Plinest-Eye, which is recommended for the delicate area around the eyes.

What Happens During the Procedure?

I will cleanse your skin, and then administer multiple very tiny superficial injections across the area of concern.

What Are The Side Effects?

As with any injection, expect the skin to be slightly red and swollen immediately after your treatment. This should disappear within a few days. There may be pin prick bleeding, bruising and some itchiness, and you should avoid touching the area for at least 6 hours.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

Depending on the severity of your concerns, I advise 2-3 treatments, spaced 3 weeks apart for best results. Polynucleotides can be used to prepare and enhance the skin quality prior to dermal filler injections or can be used at the same time or afterwards to keep the skin looking good for longer. You can expect to see results start to appear 3 weeks after your initial treatment, and should last 6-9 months.

Aftercare Advice

For 6 hours- avoid touching the treated area so not to introduce infection.

For 12-24 hours- avoid strenuous exercise or hot environments (saunas steam rooms, hot showers, sunbathing). Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after treatment as this increases the risk of bleeding.
